Ondo to postpone local Election

AD

State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) had fixed February 17, as the date to conduct the polls.

Sources said the local elections might be postponed due to the death of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The source said burial activities of Akeredolu would commence on February 15, and end on February 23, when the former governor would be buried.

Besides the burial of Akeredolu, another source said incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa might also push for the postponement to enable his loyalists to emerge as candidates.

Primaries of the APC for the local government elections were conducted before the death of Akeredolu.

According to the source, “The party primary is April this year and the fear in Aiyedatiwa’s camp is that those candidates would not be loyal to him if they became local government chairmen.

“We are aware of plans to postpone the local government elections or a possibility of canceling the entire process.”

The chairman of ODIEC, Joseph Igbekele Aremo, did not confirm whether the election would be postponed.

Aremo said the commission was working out something and that he would soon brief stakeholders in the state on the outcome.

The spokesman for the Ondo PDP, Kennedy Peretei, said the February 17th date was no longer feasible for the conduct of the polls.

CRITICIZE BUT DON'T ENGAGE IN TEARING DOWN .

Hon. Olanrewaju Stephen Afolabi, Councilor representing the wonderful people of APOI Ward IV urged people Of Ese-Odo Local Government not to engage in tearing down. The recent criticism within Ese-Odo Local Government has sparked immense conversations about the manner in which we represent ourselves and others in the media.  While some may see criticism as negativism, it should, however, be viewed as a tool for improvement. I will only urge those who engage in criticism to strive to be constructive in their approach, offering specific and actionable feedback rather than simply tearing down.  This is important because the way we represent ourselves and others in the media has a significant impact on how we are perceived and treated in the future.  To me, it is inevitable that criticism and evaluation will come your way.  In fact, it is essential for providing quality representation to the people. How on earth could one possibly think that they can give people th...

Ilaje/Ese Odo Must Rise: Time for a New Kind of Leadership

For over 20 years, Ilaje/Ese Odo Federal Constituency has followed the same political pattern—electing male representatives again and again. While the past has played its role, one question remains unavoidable: Has this approach delivered the level of development we truly deserve? If we are honest, we know the answer. Because progress is not built on repetition—it is built on bold decisions and new direction. And as it is often said, we cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results. This is why the call for gender-inclusive leadership is not just timely—it is necessary. Around the world, communities that embrace women in leadership experience more balanced development, stronger grassroots connection, and better focus on real human needs like education, healthcare, and youth empowerment. Ilaje/Ese Odo cannot afford to leave half of its potential untapped. Now is the time to think differently. Now is the time to act differently. At the center of this new movement is...
